NFL Picks Recap, Sunday 9.28.14

I bet and released three NFL picks on Sunday. All three wagers kicked off at 1 pm ET. May as well get the ugly out of the way first and that would be my 3-Unit Max Bet on the Jets money line at +110. I felt that after getting embarrassed at home on national TV by the Bears, the Jets would bounce back with a more focused & productive effort against the Lions. I also felt that the Lions were being overvalued off home wins against what had been struggling teams in the Giants & Packers. The Lions lone road game was a loss to the Panthers & Detroit’s road woes are well documented. But the Lions jumped out on top & never looked back. I’ve now lost two Max Bets on the Jets in consecutive weeks. There will not be a third. I could go on about the Jets, but I think it best to move on to something positive.

My next bet was a normal-sized 2-Unit wager on the Packers money line at -125. I made this same bet last weekend and the Lions drilled the Packers, 19-7. I felt Green Bay would bounce back and not lose another division game to fall to 1-3. They did not disappoint in what was an easy 38-17 win. It was close early, but the Pack pulled away in the second half, led by Aaron Rodgers’ four TD passes.

We also had a 2-Unit bet on the Miami Dolphins -3.5 over the Oakland Raiders. This was the game being played in London. I felt the public would get sucked into backing the Raiders +3.5 because they just played the Patriots tough in Foxboro (lost by just a TD) and Miami had gotten hammered in two straight lopsided losses to the Bills and Chiefs. The Raiders actually led this game 7-3 after one quarter, but it was all Miami after that. It ended up being an easy Miami win, 38-14.

So a 2-1 day for +1 Unit. I hate losing the bigger play because I know some clients do not bet with the money management strategy I recommend & some just flat out only bet the Max Bets.

I also made a halftime bet on the Saints -7 in the Sunday Night Football game against Dallas. Because of the time-sensitive nature of halftime plays, I was only able to get this play out to my clients who signed up to receive plays via text message. I’m a Cowboys fan, but I felt strongly that the Saints would rally to make a game of it after trailing 24-0 at the break. The -7 for the second half meant the Saints only had to get within 17 points. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Dallas would win this game by more than 17 points. They proved me wrong in a 38-17 win.

A disappointing weekend overall, especially with both Max Bets losing. But the regular bets did well and made it nearly a break-even weekend. I know all weekends won’t be winning ones, so I’m hoping for a strong next weekend now that we got this one out of the way.
