NFL Picks & MLB Plays, 9.21.14

Just when I thought our Saturday was the busiest betting day for us in recent memory, along came Sunday.  We made six bets on Sunday, including a second-half wager that added to our profit.

I only had one MLB play and that was on Seattle -143 at Houston.  The Mariners took a 3-1 lead, but it was all Astros after that.  This was the last bet that went final for us and I really hate losing that last bet of the day.  I always like there to be positive momentum heading into the next day.  But when you still had a winning day like we did, the positive momentum was still there.

We made five NFL bets on Sunday.  My NFL picks have been running very well and it continued on Sunday.  The big one was a 3-Unit Max Bet on the Saints -10 at home against the Vikings.  I really didn’t think this one was going to be as close as it was.  I tip my hat to that Minnesota defense.  They made play after play and kept the Vikings in the game until late.  The Saints went into that game 0-2, having lost two on the road.  I felt being back home and not wanting to fall into an 0-3 hole would motivate the Saints to pound the Vikings.  They didn’t pound them, but they did just enough for us to cash that ticket.

Next, I made a play on the Ravens on the money line at -130.  I felt the Browns were being overvalued due to their upset home win over the Saints the week prior.  This one also was not easy, as it took a field goal as time expired to get us the win.

I also made a money line wager on the Packers +115.  Green Bay had revenge for getting hammered in Detroit last Thanksgiving, 40-10.  They played that game without QB Aaron Rodgers, who owns the Lions (or at least he did).  Major props to the Detroit defense, as they held the Packers to a single TD in a 19-7 win.  So our two money line bets canceled each other out.

We also had a play on the Under 43.5 in the Titans at Bengals game.  The Bengals defense is very tough and I felt they’d hold Tennessee in check.  I also expected the Titans defense to step up after allowing 26 points at home to the Cowboys last week.  This one looked easy early, but got a little too close for comfort late.  But we cashed it with a 33-7 final score.

We made one what I like to call “non-traditional bet.”  Full-game sides and full-game totals are what I consider traditional wagers.  But there is much money to be won in more non-traditional ways.  These ways include team totals, first-half bets, second-half bets, first-five inning bets, etc.

I texted my clients (and tweeted) a second-half wager on Dallas -3.  I felt strongly that the Cowboys would come back and at least make a game of it.  They were down 21-0 at one point, but scored the final 10 points of the first half to make it 21-10.  So at -3 for the second half, I was basically betting that Dallas would close to within a TD.  I felt very strongly that they would.  Sure enough, they continued their momentum by scoring on almost every second-half possession.  Dallas won the second half 24-10 and the game, 34-31.

Another winning day and we’re now 8-2 (80%) on traditional NFL picks, good for +16 Units.  We’re also at 5-1 (83%) on our Football Max Bets this season.  I already made another Max Bet on tonight’s NFL Monday Night Football game.
