MLB Picks, Wednesday 9.17.14

When I first looked at Wednesday’s baseball slate, I saw several MLB picks I thought I’d be making.  In the end, as I usually do, I narrowed down that list to just a single MLB wager.  While I’m kicking myself for not betting the Cardinals or Angels last night, I can’t really complain.  Our lone baseball bet was on the Philadelphia Phillies and Cole Hamels.

The Padres are arguably baseball’s worst team at hitting left-handed pitching and Cole Hamels in particular has given them fits.  As I mentioned in last night’s writeup, Hamels only allowed more than a run ONCE in his last seven starts against San Diego.  How many runs did he allow in this one?  You guessed it: one.

In my very brief thoughts on this play, I mentioned how basically the entire Phillies lineup has had good success against Padres lefty Eric Stults.  It took a while (five innings I believe), but the Phillies finally broke through and tagged Stults for four runs in the fifth inning.  He never made it out of that inning, recording just one out.

We now sit at +41.67 Units in 2014.  We still have three-plus months to go and I’m confident we’re going to add to the profit.

I have not listed my MLB season record on this site, nor have I created a separate page listing my MLB plays for the 2014 season.  That is because DBpicks.com was not created until late August, so the baseball season is almost over.  And I don’t have the necessary time to go back and list every MLB pick since April.

As always, you can follow me on Twitter @DB_BettingPicks, as I post each bet I make (and release to clients) within five minutes of each game’s start time.

I have been very selective with my MLB picks in recent weeks.  This is my common practice when rosters expand on September 1st.  In my mind, a day with no bets is a winning day.
